Tides

Zanzibar experiences two high tide peaks and two low tide peaks per day. The tides affect the entire island, but in some areas – due to the shallower seabed – they have more spectacular visual effects.

Unlike most other areas of Zanzibar, the Kendwa beach is not affected by any sort of tide impact. It is therefore the ideal place if you are looking to swim all day long, without having to walk a long way out to reach the ocean.

Best is to download any of tide app and plan your activities with it. Some places can be accessed during low tide but you may find yourslef trapped on the way back when high tide comes back fastly. It refferes both to short reef walks during low tide and sea urchins all around on the way back, but also walks along the beach and waves reachnig shore rocks on the way back (like between Kendwa and Nungwi - try this one!).

Safety first!
