Upendo Means Love

We are a shop, sewing school and workshop in Stone Town, Zanzibar. With your support we bring together women of different faiths and empower women and girls.

Upendo project is promoting cooperation and understanding between people of different faiths, Upendo women are 50/50 Christian and Muslim. In Upendo’s center they have sewing school which has 3 different courses and up to 80 student at the time. Many of the women graduated from Upendo’s sewing school have managed to employ themselves after that. To help the women to get started Upendo project may also give micro loans to the women. In the school there are 3 teachers. To finance the school and to keep the school fees very low they have sewing workshop and cloth shop in Upendo. The shop brings the money needed for running the school. In the shop they are selling different products for women and children designed and made in Upendo workshop.
