The space
Embracing the raw beauty of native tropical flora in a coral rock landscape, and taking inspiration from the simple honesty of the island, we have designed Solomon of Zanzibar to be soft on the eyes as well as the environment.
Minimalistic contemporary design is combined with robust structural work. The cool spacious living volumes open up to the outside and all is sheltered under an impressive traditionally built makuti palm leaf roof.
We practice Permaculture. The entire premises are solar powered. Rooms have lots of airflow and are equipped with solar powered ceiling fans. A cold water gravity fed system is in place. No hot showers, but who really needs that in tropical temperatures?
Our pool is also eco friendly!
Slightly salted water passes through and electrolysis cell which sanitizes the water. Our pool therefore has significantly lower chlorine levels and no added chemicals. The water is much softer on your hair eyes and skin.
Our garden is graced by an over 200 year old mango tree and over the years we have planted plenty of tropical native fruit trees like soursop, guava, papaya, different bananas, coconut, pomegranate, passion fruit. Medicinal turmeric, lemongrass, tropical flowers.
Guest access
Besides the 5 bedrooms with adjacent living spaces, our outdoor seating lounge with fire pit, we have recently built our pool house with bar, infinity pool and the new but private Saba pool suite. Relax at the pool house, in the shade under the mango tree or enjoy the view from our shaded porch.
