The perfect family activity to discover the beautiful, authentic Zanzibar - untouched by tourism!
Makunduchi lies 5 km South of Jambiani and it is a truly authentic Zanzibari/African village with all the attributes you could wish for to experience something unique. Red soil. Red clay huts. Banana plantations. Huge mango trees. A quiet slow life. This is Makunduchi. Zanzibar’s second biggest village where life just goes on, and on, and on. We take an open car with the bikes and people and start our bike ride coming from the back of the village passing forestlike areas. We try to lift up the water from the well and try some fruit from the gold mango tree if ripe. Then we continue to see a beautifully built red clay hut with a courtyard of banana trees. Next to it is the place where the people of Makunduchi produce charcoal. We continue around in the village, pass the school and see people sitting and talking. While strolling around with our bikes to see what is going on, we will make you try different local specialities and exotic fruit in season along the way.
Starts earliest at 9 a.m. and latest at 3 p.m. (tour duration approx. 3 hours. Including free transfers in an open vehicle from/to Jambiani or Paje, a private guide, mountain bike(s), helmet(s), drinking water, seasonal fruits and local bits, and 12% VAT
BE WELL PREPARED
Sun protection and a hat/cap are recommended.
It is advised to cover your knees and shoulders.
If possible wear sports shoes rather than flip-flops or loose sandals.
If you would like to donate to the local school, you could bring exercise books, drawing paper, pencils, colouring books, etc.
